Frequently asked questions

What is Get Around Hong Kong?

A free website that finds the best way between two places in Hong Kong using public transport, combining MTR, Light Rail, franchised buses, green minibuses, trams and ferries in one trip, with live arrival times and fares.

Which transport does it cover?

All MTR lines including the Airport Express, Light Rail, KMB and Long Win, Citybus, green minibuses, New Lantao Bus, MTR feeder buses, Hong Kong Tramways, the Peak Tram and ferries including the Star Ferry, Sun Ferry and Hong Kong & Kowloon Ferry.

Are the arrival times live?

Yes where the operator publishes live data: MTR, Light Rail, KMB, Long Win, Citybus, green minibus, New Lantao Bus, MTR feeder buses, Sun Ferry and Hong Kong & Kowloon Ferry. Trams, the Peak Tram and some ferries use the timetable.

How are fares calculated?

From official fare tables: Octopus fares from the Transport Department for buses, minibuses, trams and ferries, and MTR's tables for MTR, Light Rail and the Airport Express. An MTR journey with changes is charged once, entry to exit. Interchange discounts and monthly passes are not applied, so you may pay less. Fares can be shown in HKD, USD, JPY, TWD, CNY, SGD or KRW at the day's exchange rate; Octopus always charges HKD.

Can it calculate fares for a family?

Yes. In Settings, set the number of adults, children (3–11), seniors (60+) and persons with disabilities; totals and the cheapest-route ranking use the whole group.

Does it support wheelchair users?

Yes. Turn on Step-free routes in Settings: walks avoid stairs, and minibuses and trams (which have steps at the door) are left out. Franchised buses, MTR and Light Rail are kept.

Where does the data come from?

Hong Kong Government open data on DATA.GOV.HK (Transport Department timetables and fares, operators' live arrival feeds), MTR open data, and OpenStreetMap for streets and walking routes.

Is it free? Is it official?

It's free with no account needed. It is an independent site built on public open data, not an official MTR, Transport Department or operator service.
